Unpunished Atavisms, 2019

Unpunished Atavisms is an installation composed of two works and arises from a collaboration with the Sin Voz Foundation that denounces child abuse and exploitation. This work was performed together with the artist Miguel Lombardo and denounces the silence of the authorities and the circles of power regarding child rape and exploitation. In Panama, an act of sexual violence against children is committed every 12 hours. In the first work, 24 rubber penises were used to exemplify the aggressive object and at the same time a disperse clock, in this manner suggesting the timeless exposure that children have towards the attacks. Dozens of panties and underpants were also intervened, covered in “blood” and torn up, alluding to the assaulted object, the damaged body, the cruelty. A glass and mirror cube was built and inside it the penises, the underwear and springs of children’s mattresses were placed. The second work consists of a mattress tower with 314 springs. Each spring multiplied by 16 (the number of matrixes used) indicates the number of reported victims over two years in Panama, from 2015 to 2017.
